Sandy Anderson is the current principal at A.M.S. She works alongside all Board members and is involved in all of the portfolios in a management role. She is active in the curriculum leadership of the school and enjoys the variation the principal role offers her to get involved and work with students, all staff, board and parent group members and the wider school and educational community.
Chris Durham is the staff representative and is a long standing member of the past three boards. Chris is the associate principal and represents the interests of the staff on the Board. She enjoys the variation this role provides and is keenly interested in the governance aspect of a self managing school board. Every month she presents an interesting report of staff and school activities and keeps the Board up to date with current school happenings. Her classroom and practical curriculum knowledge is acknowledged and valued by the Board.
Ngaire is the Board of Trustees secretary. Her role encompasses many things, she takes minutes from each meeting, liaises with Parent Group and distributes information to BoT members. Ngaire works in the school office.
Andrew Siddles (Parent rep) is the most recent Board chairperson. In 2012 he stepped down from this role after three years as the Chair. He has been a long standing board member who has two sons at A.M.S. Andrew’s responsibilities include liaising on a regular basis with the principal and is involved in the governance side of personnel management and employer responsibilities. The board appreciates Andrew’s particular and invaluable expertise in the field of IT strategic planning and development. The Board draws on this expertise regularly.
Ricki Freemantle (Parent rep) acts as Board treasurer and deputy chairperson. Ricki is an experienced board member who has two children at A.M.S and does a great job monitoring school finances. This not an easy job but he keeps the Board right up to date with the best interest rates and provides a very effective monthly summary of cash flow and investment funds.
Dr. Virgil Troy is a recent board member who joined the board in 2010. He has taken on the responsibility of ensuring the Board is up to date with all the legislative requirements of governance and has appropriate policies and procedures in place. Virgil has two daughters at A.M.S.
Tracey Tidswell joined the Board in 2010 as a Parent representative. In 2012 she stepped up to the role of Chairperson. Tracey has one son at A.M.S. and is fully involved as the Board’s representative on the Parent Group which is responsible for fundraising extra money for the school each year. Tracey keeps the Parent Group up to date with Board activities and also keeps the Board in touch with the varied activities the Parent Group are involved in.
Nick Chard (Parent Rep) was elected to the board in 2007 and has one daughter at A.M.S. Nick takes on the responsibility for website maintenance of the Board’s page and leads the Communication portfolio. He is very active in seeking out the best quotes for big ticket items the board needs to purchase and always gets a good deal, saving us dollars which can go towards students’ needs.
Bob has been a longstanding Board member who was coopted back on to the Board in 2010 for his property expertise. During the past 2 years the school has undergone a major property development and the construction of a Learning Design Pilot Block. Bob’s expertise was invaluable in this phase and his continuing contribution is appreciated as we complete the final stages of the development. Bob has one child remaining at A.M.S.
