Gifted and Talented
Individual Gifted and Talented students are extended through differentiation of the curriculum within classrooms.
We stream our maths classes within the middle (Year 3/4) and senior (Yr 5/6 teams. There are also some junior classes that are streamed. This is so students who excel can work together, those who are capable mathematicians are grouped together and those who need extra help are able to work at their own pace.
In addition, at various times during the year teachers select students for particular small group work with a tutor where the focus is on a learning area such as literacy or art, science or physical education. These programmes tend to take place in blocks of time; for e.g. every afternoon for a week or three mornings and so on. These programmes are designed to challenge the abilities of these students who can work collaboratively under the guidance of an expert tutor.
In the past, and currently, we run programmes in science, technology, art, reading and writing, Tutors are either our own teachers who are released from their classes or outside experts whom we reimburse for their time.
